Starting 11/4, Walgreens will be changing their Balance Rewards system! Currently you can redeem anywhere from 1,000 points ($1 reward) to 40,000 points per transaction, which equals a $50 discount. However, with the new change you'll still earn 10 points for every $1 spent, but you can only redeem up to 5,000 points (or $5) per transaction. How will Walgreens Balance Rewards work starting 11/4: Unfortunately, starting 11/4, the Balance Rewards system will be changing. You will only be able to redeem points in accordance with five tiers, and with maximum redemption limit being at 5,000 points ($5 reward). This keeps people from saving up hundreds of dollars in points and using them all at once. The new structure will work like this: 1,000 points = $1 discount 2,000 points = $2 discount 3,000 points = $3 discount 4,000 points = $4 discount 5,000 points = $5 discount (maximum) Having this in mind, if you have a lot of points in your Balance Rewards account, we strongly suggest using them before 11/4, since you might be potentially facing a 20% decrease in points' value if you don't. I don't know about you, but opening a brand new jar of pickles or pasta sauce has always been a pain point for me. If my husband isn't home and I can't get it to open, then I usually have to put the jar back. My son Ryan is kind of a picky eater (he takes after my husband, Mr FSF 😂). While my daughter Sophie isn't a picky eater, she would start to mimic her brother's behaviors (and verbal complaints), and before you know it, meal times can turn into a battle of wills. Me vs them. As a child, I didn't grow up in a very organized household. There was clutter and things everywhere. Every drawer you opened. Every surface... had clutter. And as an adult, I never learned the skills and habits to keep a home organized. Seeing that my home reflected that of the cluttered environment I grew up in, I felt really determined to take some action this year and to change.  I wanted to learn new habits and to invite more peace into our home. Plus, I didn't want my kids to grow up in and to adopt the same bad habits I did. While I still have a lot to learn, and changing one's habit is a process that will take time and practice. I'm really proud of what I've started to adopt into my family's life so far. Marie Kondo's book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" was LIFE Changing! I started with the physical book but ended up listening to the Audiobook instead. If you wanna dive in quickly like me, I highly recommend that you listen to the audiobook - You'll get thru it much faster, plus you can listen and tidy at the same time (that's what I did lol). You can get TWO Free Audiobooks here if you are new to audible. If you listen to the audiobook, I do have to warn you that the narrative is a little dry. Listen for the content and power thru it. It's worth it. :) Okay. You've been warned ... so you're not surprised. If you follow me on SnapChat, you may have seen my transformation this year with decluttering my closet and re-doing the dresser drawer for each of my kids (and myself). Many of you wrote in and started doing the same (see pics below). One of the sweetest new habits I picked up from Marie Kondo is her method and philosophy on folding clothes: Fold as much as you can instead of hanging You can fold almost anything into a little rectangle shape (more on this later below) - Even underwear and socks Store folded clothing vertically (standing up) Give everything a home Ever since converting over to the "KonMari" folding method. Opening my drawers each morning to pick out a pair of tees, leggings, and socks has turned into a joyful ritual. I can't explain it. You have to experience it to understand. And folding fresh laundry no longer feels like a chore. It feels like a peaceful medication that's calming and fulfilling. How to Fold Clothes Using KonMarie Method I had a hard time visualizing and understanding her folding method from the audiobook, so I googled videos of Marie Kondo actually doing it.  And it made so much more sense to see it visually. There are tons of video on YouTube you can look into, but here are a few to get you started: Marie Kondo: Basic Folding Method KonMari Method - Marie Demonstrating in English Folding Awkward Items on Rachael Ray Show Marie on Folding the Perfect Underwear Drawer Marie on the Ellen Show - Teaching Ellen to Fold Basic Folding Illustration I found that by converting to her folding method, not only does it look nice, you can fit a lot more into a dresser than stacking them flat. I used to use 3-4 drawers for the same content I now keep in one drawer. Tools I Love for Keeping Drawers Organized While you don't need to buy any tools for KonMari folding method (you can use cardboards as dividers), I ended up using these Dial Dream Drawer Organizers as dividers for my dressers. It looks so much nicer to have these plastic dividers to separate the different sections. I've also tried these wood dividers but didn't like them (they were hard to use and I don't recommend it). For my kid's drawers, I also got some of these clear storage trays for socks, underwear and swimsuits. That's it! :) Here are more pics of examples using the clear trays for my daughter Sophie: When I started converting our dressers, I first started with my own clothing. I used to have several drawers and shelves, now have two fully converted dresser drawers that fit everything.  One drawer each for socks, underwear and bras. And one drawer for tops and leggings. I breakdown tops into tank tops, short sleeve tees and long sleeve tees. Both my kids dressers are now fully converted too. My kids have a lot more clothes than me. So they have a drawer for tops, a drawer for bottoms, a drawer for PJs, and since we're in SoCal and swim a lot, a drawer for swimsuits. 😬 My son is on the Autism spectrum. Like all children who has ASD, he needs (and craves) structure. One of our biggest daily struggles is getting him ready in the morning, groomed and dressed. It's chaos every morning! I started using the dream drawer dividers to carve out a spot for each day of the week in his dresser. I would pick out his clothes (including underwear and socks - not shown in pic above) at the start of the week, so mornings during the school week can go a little smoother. I wanted to share this pic of my son's "days of week" drawer, just in case it's helpful. I have been brainstorming different ideas and found this to be helpful for our family. I think even for children who doesn't have Autism, this can be helpful in morning routines to get your young kiddos ready for school. To Setup Automatic-Savings Stores: From SavingStar App Click on "Redeem" Click on "+ Add Store" (example: try CVS or Rite Aid) Select the stores you shop at by clicking on the "I Shop Here" button. If the store is an Automatic-Savings store, it'll give you options to link to your store card. Follow the steps to link store card to SavingStar. How to Redeem SavingStar Offers at Automatic-Savings Stores: At checkout, simply present your loyalty card or enter your phone number as usual. Within 2-10 days, the offer will automatically be credited to your SavingStar account - no additional steps required!  Just remember to activate the offer before you shop. Here are the steps on what to do: Activate the offer in the SavingStar app or from SavingStar.com Purchase the item in the store. Enter your store loyalty card or phone number at checkout The offer will be automatically processed to your SavingStar account within 2-10 days! B) Receipt-Scan Stores (ie. Target, Walmart, Everywhere else...) For all other stores that SavingStar supports that are not Automatic-Savings Stores, you would redeem those offers by taking a picture of your receipt and submitting it in either the SavingStar app or on SavingStar.com This method is similar to other cash back apps, such as Ibotta or Checkout51. Popular receipt-scan stores include Target, Publix and Walmart. To redeem: Activate the offer in SavingStar app before purchase Purchase the item. You will need to submit receipt no later than 3 days after rebates expire. Click on Redeem Select the Store you shopped at. ie. Target Click on "Submit a Receipt" button Click on "Verify Items You Bought" - Scan barcodes of items purchased to verify Click on "Snap pics of your receipt" and capture your receipt picture(s) thru the app. You can take multiple pictures for long receipts. Click "Done" when you are finished capturing the entire receipt. The offer will be processed to your account within 1-5 days! #2. Types of SavingStar Offers: There are two main types of offers in the SavingStar app: A) Individual Product Offers: Individual Product Offers allow you to earn rewards on single, specific products. Please note that most offers are for one-time use only. You’ll receive credit within 2-10 days with the offer amount. How to Redeem: Activate offers by clicking the "Activate This Rebate" button. While shopping, use the SavingStar app to scan product barcodes. This will ensure that the product you are purchasing qualifies for the offer selected. Load-to-Card offers: Allow 2-10 days for processing. Receipt-Scan offers: Allow 1-5 days for processing after submitting your receipt. B) One or Many Offers: One or Many offers are offers where you can make purchases in one trip or many trips at any stores participating in SavingStar. These offers have a spending threshold, where you earn a larger reward when the spending threshold is met for a specific brand or set of brands.   The BEST part about these offers is that items can be purchased in separate transactions at ANY participating store, allowing you to work towards the offer over time. For example, I recently activated an offer on Del Monte Fruit Cups: “Save $4.00 when you spend $12 or more.” These offers also tend to have longer expiration dates than individual offers. With longer valid periods, you can work towards the goal over several shopping trips! How to Redeem: Activate offers by clicking the "Activate This Rebate" button Scan barcodes and shop for qualifying items - remember, this can be done over several days and at different stores if desired! Keep an eye out for “boosts” that will help you reach your goal faster. These are typically small tasks: for example, watching a short video and receiving $2 toward your offer. Load-to-Card offers: Allow 2-10 days for processing. Receipt-Scan offers: Allow 1-5 days for processing after submitting final receipt. C) Healthy Offers: After redeeming two offers on SavingStar, keep an eye out on Tuesdays for healthy offers each week! This is an easy way for qualified members to earn rebates on fresh produce. Nice! #3. How to Cash Out in SavingStar! Once your SavingStar account balance reaches a credit of $20 or more, you can request to cash out! Send funds to your bank account, PayPal or redeem on gift codes to Starbucks, AMC and more. Allow 24-48 hours for processing. #4. Can You Combine SavingStar with Coupons or Cashback Apps? Sometimes... it depends. Stacking with Other Cashback Apps Check the fine print of individual offers from the SavingStar mobile app to see what restrictions it has on combining with Coupons or Cashback apps.  If there are restrictions, it will state it. Not all offers will have restrictions. Currently, what we know is that SavingStar and Checkout51 share user data. They match users via email address. So if you use the same email address for all cashback apps, they will be linked. I've seen the situation where the same offer exist on both apps, and once you claim the offer on one app, it'll disappear on the other app. Or if I activate an offer on SavingStar, it'll say "0 available" in Checkout51. For other Cashback apps on the market like ibotta or fetchrewards, it seems that you can stack with SavingStar (at the time of this writing). Stacking with Manufacturer's Coupon Manufacturer's coupons (like the ones you find from Sunday inserts), Printable coupons & Digital Coupons can SOMETIMES be stacked with SavingStar. Again, you'll need to check the fine print for each offer inside the SavingStar app. Look for restrictions in the "detail" section such as "Cannot be used in conjunction with other coupons" or similar notes. If you see those restrictions then you can't. However, if you don't see any fine print or don't see restrictions in the fine print, then you can stack with manufacturer's coupons. You can also stack SavingStar offers with in-store discounts and sales. #5. Helpful SavingStar Tips Activate Hot Offers Quickly - All SavingStar offers have a limit to how many people can activate it. Although this limit isn't publicly disclosed, we have seen hot offers hitting the limit quickly. So if you see an offer you are interested in, make sure to clip it by clicking on the Activate button. "Claim it" before they are gone! Scan Products in Store to Verify - I like to double check while I'm in stores, to verify that I'm buying the correct item before actually making the purchase. You can use the SavingStar app to scan the product's barcode to see if the product matches the offer. This double checking also makes sure you have activated the offer before purchase. Submit Receipt While In-Store - This is just a personal preference and habit I highly recommend for ALL cashback offers. Instead of waiting until you get home to submit your receipt, I like to make the habit of submitting to cashback immediately after I purchase, while I'm still in the store. This way you won't forget to do it later, and you won't miss out on offers that might expire (or get pulled early) overnight. #LessonLearned #FirstHandExperience 😂 You Don't Need a Smartphone - You can actually submit rebate claims and activate offers without the mobile app. You can do everything online at SavingStar.com - including submitting a picture of your receipt. So for those of you without a smartphone, you can still save with SavingStar. Check 1st of Month, Thursdays, Sundays - While there are new offers released at random times on random days, many new offers are released on the first day of every month. Also, new offers are released on Thursdays and Sundays. New healthy offers are posted every Tuesday for qualifying members. #6. Step-By-Step Guide: Still confused? or need extra hand-holding for your first time? Follow along with this step-by-step guide: Activate offers in the FREE SavingStar app. After purchasing products for the offer, click on the redeem tab in the App. Tap the store where you want to redeem (for example, Target) Verify the product purchased by scanning the barcode Snap a picture of your receipt That’s it! Submit your receipt and expect your rewards in 2-10 days. If you're shopping at an Automatic-Savings Store, simply link your store card by scanning it or entering the number manually. I'm trying this new series of articles on Fridays called "Favorite Things Friday" where I will be sharing some of my favorite things, products, life tips, in hopes that you might find it useful in some way for your family. My kids love strawberries and blueberries. One of the biggest frustrations I have with strawberries is that they rot so quickly in the fridge. So much so that I started avoiding buying Organic Strawberries, since they tend to go bad even faster. Often, I'll check back after 2-3 days of buying them, and the entire pack is moldy and needs to be thrown away. I hate wasting food! (Really, I hate wasting anything that I paid for with hard earned money.) Let me document some tips and products I found helpful in helping to keep strawberries fresh for longer (and other produce too). How to Keep Strawberries Fresh for Longer Here are some tips that I've learned on how to keep strawberries last longer than the usual 2-3 days. The key to keeping strawberries fresh is to keep them stored clean and dry. 1. Wash Right Away with Vinegar Once I get home from the grocery store, I wash the Strawberries before they go in the fridge. Mold spores on the fruits are what makes them go bad quickly. I wash my strawberries with Apple Cider Vinegar and water mix. You can do this in a big bowl or a salad spinner. Leave it soaking for a few minutes. The vinegar solution helps to remove spores and bacteria on the fruit, thus extending their life. I typically add about 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar to a bowl of water. But you can use regular Vinegar as well. Some people add more vinegar for their wash solution (ie. 1 cup vinegar for 3 cups of water), in which case you'll have to rinse extra well. 2. Dry Your Strawberries Drying your berries is the next important step. You can get rid of excess water by spinning it a few times in a salad spinner. AND/OR drying it with a soft cloth or paper towel. You can also air dry them in a colander, but with so many things going on, I'm afraid I'll forget about the drying berries on the counter overnight (lol), so I don't do this. 3. Storing Your Strawberries for Freshness The quick and cheapest solution (what I used to use) for storage is to line the plastic containers (they came in) with paper towels and put the berries back in the containers. And then a few months ago, there was a deal we posted on these Rubbermaid FreshWorks containers. I got a set to try and have been hooked ever since! 😍 There's a little perforated tray in the bottom of the container to keep produce from soaking in any condensation and moisture. And the lid has little "holes" in it to allow air flow in and out of the container. I've since purchased a few more of these from Target (with the food storage category coupon), and I use it with all my fruit that needs washing. One tip I found to be helpful is to wash all your fruits and veggies in one sitting. Then dry and store. It'll save you time in the long run instead of washing one item as you need it. Plus, it's so much more convenient to use, without the additional friction of needing to wash fruits. In the mornings, I love pulling out my green and white containers of already washed fruits and packing my kid's lunches. SO Nice! Giveaway Time! If you're a Rite Aid shopper you may have noticed that back in January Rite Aid switched away from the Plenti Points program to the Wellness+ Points system. While you haven't been earning any Plenti Points since that switch, you may still have some left! Right now you're still able to redeem your Plenti Points in stores, however any remaining Plenti Points will expire on 7/10, your last day to use them. Hey! I recently setup a new coupon box and I thought it would be interesting to bring you along. Click on the play button above, or click on this link to watch a video on my preferred way on how to organize coupons. Once you start collecting Sunday inserts, they can start to pile up quickly into a cluttered mess. There are many ways to organize coupons: You can put whole inserts in a binder, you can pre-cut individual coupons and put them in baseball card holders in a binder or even keeping them in one tall stack. While having individual coupons pre-cut is idea, it is also the most time consuming. I prefer the whole insert filing method.  It's quick! Literally, takes 2 to 5 mins to maintain each week. I plan out my trip each week, and clip the coupons as needed before my trip. Materials You Will Need: I got everything from Office Depot only because I had reward dollars that was expiring. You can find everything (except Label Once) at almost any store that sells office supplies. Office Depot also had Free next day shipping, so that was nice. I got them here pretty fast and was able to use coupons plus reward dollars. Some of the filing supplies such as filing folders comes in a pack of 100. You only need about 20 folders. It might be a good idea to split it with a friend. Filing Box Here is the exact ones I bought (It also comes in navy here). You can also get them at Amazon, Staples, Target, Walmart. You can also use a filing crate. I prefer the plastic filing box, since they are portable. You can bring it in your car with a handle. I prefer the file box with storage on top, with a handle. Get letter sized. Hanging Folders Standard letter size hanging folders Here are the exact ones I bought. Comes in variety of cute colors. Again, you can pretty much find this at any store that sells office supplies: Amazon, Office Depot, Staples, Target, Walmart. Filing Folders (Optional) Letter sized filing folders Here are the exact ones I bought. Label Once Erasable File Labels (Optional) This is optional, but I highly recommended. Alternatively, you can also get labels and place new labels over old ones. Or use sticky notes or masking tape. I find the label once to be a more elegant solution. This is the exact one I bought. But perhaps this would be better for the hanging folders (I just saw this now. Note that the link is a refill kit so it doesn't come with a pen). On the video, I said that the marker it comes with is a white erase marker. But I just realized now that they are actually permanent markers. The material of Label Once allows for permanent markers to be erased. So you technically can use sharpies as well. Sharpie Any brand of permanent marker How to Setup: #1. Hanging Folder Setup Get 12 hanging folders Add clear tabs on them There are 11 holes to place the tabs. I positioned them so you see 4 tabs at a time without overlapping.  If you want to get it exactly, first tab I placed between 1 and 3 spot. Second tab I placed between 4 and 6. Third tab I placed between 7 and 9. Fourth tab is placed between 9 and 11. Put erasable labels over each tab #2. Grab Inserts Get your whole inserts from Sunday newspaper If you get multiple inserts, group them by like inserts. Smart Source, RetailMe Not, P&G TIP: Pull out any extra fliers ads that's in the insert that doesn't contain coupons to keep it less bulky #3. Write Date & Type on Insert Cover Write "SS 3/25" on the cover of first insert for each type of insert. If you receive multiple Smart Source that are different, label them #1 and #2. ie. "SS 3/25 #1" TIP: You can check the date of your insert by looking on the binding edge. It's really tiny. #4. Write Date on Hanging Holder Label Write the Sunday's date where these inserts were found on the hanging folder label. Keep the newest dates at the front. #5. Separate Types of Inserts (Optional) If you get multiple inserts, I recommend separating each insert type into its own separate filing folder. In the video I assumed you were getting multiple inserts like me. If you only get 1 or 2 inserts a week, then you can skip this step and use just the hanging folder for the week. Insert Names: SS = Smart Source RP = RetailMe Not (Previously called Redplum) P&G = Proctor & Gamble #6. Putting P&G At the Front (Optional) Additionally, I like to keep my P&G inserts in one folder at the very front of the box. P&G inserts expire within the month and new ones are released every month. It's something I'll access often and they usually expire quickly. For that reason, I prefer to keep them where I can quickly access them instead of organizing by date and trying to remember which date current month's P&G came out on. #7. Do a Happy Dance! 💃 That's it! Now do a happy dance. You are on your way to coupon organization bliss. :) It'll only take you a couple of minutes each week to file them away and stay organized. Now that they are all organized by date and insert name, you will be able to quickly location your coupons when you are ready to do a deal. Every coupon deal we post on FSF, we'll indicate where to locate that insert coupon (ie. "SS 3/25, x4/25" - that means you can find it from SmartSource 3/25 and that the coupon expires on 4/25). I typically keep 12 week's worth of inserts in my coupon box. Adding new weeks to the front of the box. Once I've filled all 12 week's spots, take out the oldest folder (at the back), pull out the inserts, re-name the label, and re-use for the current week.  Go thru the old inserts to see if there are any good coupons that haven't expired.  Optionally, if you prefer to keep your coupons for even longer, you can also pull this folder out and move it into an overflow coupon box (Second box). Each week, I plan my trips, and clip out just the coupons that I will be using for that trip. I put them in an envelope for each store I'm visiting. I've also used a canvas pencil pouch in the past. But found that paper envelops were easier. I still use a canvas pencil pouch to hold my receipts for each store. Many people also like to keep a small accordion folder or small coupon organizer to store their clipped coupons. You can organize each tabs by major categories you coupon for.  I found mine (plastic one) at Staples in the clearance bin. I've also gotten them from Target before. Lots of options. I am so deeply saddened. I got news this morning that a beloved member of team FSF passed away last week. Adolfo has been the Target expert between 2014 and 2017. He was a Major contributor to the many deals you may have scored in the last few years, including many, many, many unadvertised sales and scenarios at Target. He was also responsible for the massive undertaking that is the Target weekly matchup each week. That was his baby for 3 years - he took care of her with such diligence and care. He was kind, smart, passionate and silly. He was also the most considerate person, always willing to help anyone on the team. I loved him. We all loved him. Being the only male couponer on the team, he was our very own special unicorn. He loved deals. When the girls and I would get excited about a tampon deal or a curling wand deal, he would get excited with us and rush to do the deals for his sisters or mom. Every Black Friday, he'd stay up all night with me, making sure I was okay before he signed off. He always thought about other people. Always. I miss you Adolfo. I love you. My heart is broken. The world isn't the same without you. You were a GOOD person. We are all deeply saddened. My heart goes out to his family. If you see this. Will you whisper a prayer tonight? May our beloved Adolfo Rest in Peace. May the people who love him heal from this terrible loss.

Calling all my coupon fam! Starting this Sunday, March 25th, RedPlum inserts will be rebranded as "RetailMeNot Everyday". The insert publication schedule for the rest of this year will remain the same as RedPlum previously scheduled. As always, you will still get them in your Sunday papers or in the mail. Besides manufacturer's coupons for groceries and consumer packaged goods, Valassis announced that we will also be seeing deals on restaurants and other local discounts. I don't know about you. But I will forever call this insert "RP". What about you? I don't think I can get used to saying RMNE 😂. Or I guess "RE" wouldn't be so bad.  If it was up to me, I would have rebranded it to something where the second word starts with the letter P. Something like "RetailMeNot Plus". For now you can still snag your RedPlum Printable Coupons from the website, however they will eventually move to the RetailMeNot Everyday website in conjunction with the new branded inserts. What's a RedPlum? What's an insert? - Inserts are coupon booklets found inside Sunday newspapers. You might see us referencing these weird acronyms from coupon deal posts.
